Dash Cams for Rideshare Drivers

Gig economy drivers have faced an increasing need for dash cams. They protect the driver against false claims along with making riders feel safe. Especially in light of recent claims against rideshare companies, a dash cam is important to protect all parties involved with your business.

Dash cams generally mount on a large mirror which clips over your rear view mirror. Most of the nicer ones cost somewhere between $100 and $200, although there are some cheaper options as well.

Top Choice: Falcon Zero F360+ HD DVR Dual 1080P

At $170, this is definitely one of the more expensive options. However, it has two cameras. The cameras turn 180 degrees, which allow you to face one forward and one backward. Most drivers opt to aim the backward facing camera so that it shows them and covers the backseat. The wide angle lens on the Falcon Zero allows you to capture much more of the backseat than you may be able to with other models.

Upgrade: Falcon Zero Touch PRO HD Dash Cam

Falcon makes a slightly more expensive touchscreen version of the dual listed above. Along w

ith similar features as its $20 cheaper counterpart, this camera also comes with two docking stations, making it easy to switch the cameras between multiple vehicles if necessary.

Middle of the Road: Z-EDGE Z2 Plus Dual Lens Dash Cam

This one is less expensive, around $110 at the time of this article, but still has many of the features of the Falcon cameras. It also has a sleeker look to it. The second camera for this one is connected by a cord rather than remotely—slightly less convenient for rideshare drivers.

The best places to mount this camera are either stuck on the bottom of your mirror, taped to the dashboard, or tucked under your visor.

Less Expensive: FalconZero F170HD+ DashCam

This is a single dashcam, meaning it only has one front-facing camera rather than one pointing front and one back. At around $100, this is probably the best of the simpler (and cheaper) version of the dashcam.

Bonus Less Expensive: HP Dash Cam Car DVR Vehicle Dashboard Camera Recorder

Again, this is a single dash cam, and around the same price as the FalconZero ($90). It has an auto on and off feature that correlates to when the car is turned on. It also automatically overwrites files on the SD card, starting with the oldest, once the card is full.

Least Expensive: HD 1080p Car DVR Vehicle Camera Video Recorder Dash Cam

If you’re not sure about what you’re looking for in a dashcam, you can start with the least expensive versions. If you do a search on the model number of the one listed above, you’ll find a long list of comparably priced options.

There are mixed reviews on the cheaper versions of the dash cams, and some users report issues with overwriting the SD card. There is also no SD card included on this one, so factor getting one of those into your expense.
