Tired of delivering food? Try Saucey instead.

Are you getting tired of traditional food delivery platforms like GrubHub and Postmates? Saucey exclusively delivers alcoholic products—wine, beer, mixers, snacks and spirits. Currently, the service is available in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, and Chicago.

What does Saucey offer that Postmates doesn’t? Well, for one thing, it has more options. It also brands itself as a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to its products. For couriers, this might end up being a lucrative opportunity.

How does it work?

Saucey offers delivery of its drinks in 30 minutes or less, otherwise they offer free two-day shipping. Hours are not 24/7 for this service. Saucey’s hours are 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and then Friday and Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday hours are until 10 p.m.

Pricing for Saucey

Saucey has no delivery fees, which can be good news for customers. All fees are included in the price shown in the app, including the fee to delivery (or ship). There is also no minimum order size.

Saucey also has bartenders available for hire for events. The rate for this service is $60 per hour, and the event must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Customers can choose to have multiple bartenders as well.

Why work for Saucey?

Saucey, like GrubHub, allows you to sign up for specific shift blocks. They also assure couriers that they can choose a specific neighborhood in which to work, which can be helpful for efficiency as well as your own peace of mind.

Couriers are paid at a rate of $5 per delivery, plus 50 cents per item, plus a tip. So if your customer has four items, you’ll make $7, independent of tip. The average tip has been reported around $6.

Also, all orders are preordered, so there’s none of the waiting in line to order and pay like there is with Postmates.

While couriers have no set uniforms, this is considered a higher end platform, so you may want to consider a polo shirt or above for dress.

Saucey couriers all attend a brief orientation where they learn the platform and receive their supplies. You will receive a cooler bag for the bottles. It’ll help keep the chill on most drinks, although you may want a cooler as well. On top of that, it can keep bottles from breaking, etc.

Most couriers also receive a phone clip for your phone to aid in hands free use.

Potential Downsides for Saucey

While not particularly a downside, delivering alcohol is legally more complicated than delivering food. Be aware that Saucey does require ID checks on every delivery, so you’ll have a bit more to do than regular customer service (but hey, your car won’t smell like pizza). More than just a passing glance, you are required to check that the person matches the ID, then scan the ID through the app, and then hand the person the alcohol. Failure to check IDs correctly can land you in trouble with the company and the law, so you’ll want to make sure you feel comfortable checking IDs before you start working.

Customers use the star system to rate couriers, and, like other platforms, they have a threshold. However, Saucey’s cutoff is much higher than others. They expect their couriers to maintain a 4.8 out of 5 stars or better.

Lastly, if a courier is unable to complete a delivery, they are expected to return the alcohol. They may not keep it.
