DoorDash recently added a group delivery option to its platform. This change could spell more business for drivers.
DoorDash has been trying to amp up their game recently. They’ve made additions including ordering ice cream, beer and even voter registration kits. They’re even testing robot delivery in certain areas.
Its latest improvement is the addition of group delivery to its mobile app.
DoorDash Group Order
According to the company, DoorDash customers can now order. Any store or restaurant that uses DoorDash’s service is eligible for group order. The group order has been available via DoorDash’s website for awhile already, but adding it to the app is sure to increase group ordering.
The new app feature comes with the ability to cap the dollar amount of each order in the group. Each member can then go in and order individually.
The update came by popular demand of the customers, meaning it’s likely to be a well-used feature.
Tips to Earn More with DoorDash
With the new features and the (hopefully) increased business coming with it, how can you make more money?
One obvious way is to work during busy times of the day. DoorDash pays a set amount for each delivery (plus customer tips, which could be better from a group or could not be). Because DoorDash is all about food delivery, mealtimes are your prime time. Lunch runs from about 11 to 1, while dinner starts around 4 p.m. and can go as late as 9 or 9:30.
Surprisingly, though, most drivers find there’s not a substantial difference between earning from weeknight runs versus weekends. The group order feature may actually support this norm, since one of its target uses is business managers ordering lunch for members of their meetings.
DoorDash drivers tend to be pretty creative about where they park as well, since parking close can increase your delivery speed, which then maximizes your earnings per hour. That said, it’s important to take into account the fact that DoorDash does not currently have a parking ticket reimbursement program. Caviar, on the other hand, does offer such a program.
Another great way to maximize is to “selectively decline” certain orders. DoorDash orders from higher end restaurants are much more likely to carry high tips. There are several reasons for this. First of all, the convenience of having high-end food delivered to your door versus having to drive to the restaurant and sit waiting for it yourself is much steeper than, say, the difference between going through a drive through yourself versus paying to have it delivered. Secondly, many customers see tipping as based on a percentage of the total order—so the higher the order, the higher your tip is likely to be.
Other DoorDash News
Another recent news item for DoorDash is P.F. Chang’s announcement that it will begin a test run of offering its beer and wine to select parts of the California market. The option will include 15 varieties of domestic, import and craft beers and more than 40 varieties of wine, including Mark West Pinot Noir and Estancia Pinot Grigio.
This offering is in keeping with other recent DoorDash expansions to bring alcoholic options to their deliveries.
